ANCIENT PRINTING PRESS ON DISPLAY AT DUKE UNIVERSITY
Durham. - - One of the most interesting objects on display at the Duke University library is the famous Henkel hand press, built in 1806 at New Market, Va., and used for years in publishing books and newspapers in the German language. Its methods of operation is primitive. A number of the books published on the old press is shown with the machine. It was recently bought by the university from a member of the Henkel family. Solid mahogany and cottonwood were used in constructing the ancient press.
